Older Persons Day

Posted

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be hosting an Older Persons Day on the 1st of October, 2015.

This new fire safety initiative is aimed at a potentially vulnerable group of adults, ensuring their own personal safety, and the safety of their households.

The day’s events will begin at Rhyl Community Fire Station at 9:30am, and is open to all older members of the public. Attendees will be welcomed with a cup of tea and biscuits, and will have the opportunity to speak to firefighters and support staff about their home fire safety.

A number of important fire safety messages will be discussed during the morning tea, such as the various provisions supplied by the Fire and Rescue Service specifically for the aged who may be visually or hearing impaired, which some members of the public may be unaware of.

Following the home fire safety discussions the visitors will be escorted around Rhyl Fire Station, and will be given a glimpse of life inside a full time fire station. Visitors will be shown the variety of fire appliances held at Rhyl, the facilities and equipment used by the firefighters, and get to meet the firefighters themselves.

Gwyn Jones, Community Safety Manager for Conwy and Denbighshire said, “We are excited to invite the older generations to the Rhyl Fire Station for a day out with us next month. We work very hard in ensuring that all members of the public, and age groups receive the vital fire safety information they need.

“This will be the first time we’ve held such an event at a fire station, and it will be great to get to meet the visitors on a less formal basis over a cup of tea. We’ve also made sure that there will be plenty of boxes of teabags for everyone to take home with them, so they can continue to spread the fire safety message, and the support we provide to their friends and families over a cup of tea.”
