Phoenix course recognises student achievement

Posted

A former pupil of North Wales Fire and Rescue Service's Phoenix course has joined students from Coleg Cambria who recently graduated from the course to be presented with a special recognition for her hard work.

Jasmyn Humphreys, 20, from Wrexham, a former Coleg Cambria student herself, returned to Phoenix to be presented with an award alongside other students who had successfully completed the course held at Mold Fire Station last week.

The Phoenix Project has been running successfully for many years and has helped hundreds of students to develop and learn new skills.

The aim of the course is to assist youngsters in becoming more motivated and positive about themselves, which in turn has the effect of making them better citizens.

Eryl Owen, Phoenix Coordinator, said: "All the students on the course last week performed extremely well and we are proud of each and every one of them for their achievement during the week long training.

"They were joined by Jasmyn, a former Phoenix Project student who went on to successfully join the Phoenix Team in a year long work placement with the fire and rescue service.

"Jasmyn has shown excellent commitment and has worked extremely hard with the Phoenix Team whilst also attending Coleg Cambria and it was felt by everyone that her effort should be recognised officially and she was presented with an ipod Touch.

"The achievements of all these youngsters show the importance of our ongoing projects and the positive effect that staff can have on the younger generation, and hopefully we'll see more following in their footsteps.

"We are hoping that these young people have gained something positive from the Phoenix project and that it will be of benefit to them in the future."
